    • Android 5.0 with a 1.2 Quad Core Processor. 9 hours average battery life. Ability to work from your tablet with Microsoft Office. Kids mode to entertain kids while securing your content. Tablet has expandable MicroSD card slot to increase memory.

    Cons

    • This tablet only supports Wi-Fi so if you are looking for 3G, look at other models. Some complaints of rebooting issues - tablet should be returned if this occurs. Single speaker has room for improvement. Rear and Front cameras are adequate, but not top of the line.

    Bottom Line

    • High quality, great resolution tablet with great performance for this price point. This model has an 8-inch display, for about $100 you can upgrade to a 10-inch display if you want a bigger size. Over 1800 positive customer reviews.

    Fire HD 8 With Alexa

      Pros

      • Based on Android OS with a 1.3 GHz quad-core processor and up to 12 hours of battery life. Tablet has 16/32 GB of internal storage and a microSD slot for up to 256 GB. Single-antenna dual-band Wi-Fi allows you to stay connected as wanted. Kids’ specification helps parent to create profile, limit screen time and choose what content they want to give their kids access to. Intelligent personal assistant (Alexa) works great. Super reasonable price!

      Cons

      • There will be ads on the lock screen so it will take time to swipe up and unlock the device. There are also complaints about charge port, which is described as sticky and doesn't seem as high quality. The camera is so-so - probably on the lower end of the spectrum. Limited case and screen protector selection.

      Bottom Line

      • Well-built and reasonably fast as well as responsive for the cheap price. You’ll be surprise with what you can get for just less than $100 (one of them is good tablet speakers). Over 8500 positive customer reviews.

      Apple iPad Mini 2

      Apple iPad Mini 2

        Pros

        • iOS 7.0 with a 64-bit 1.3GHz dual-core A7 SoC. 11 hours average battery life. High resolution 2048 x 1536 screen at 326 pixels per inch provides you with crystal clear and sharp display. 5-megapixel Rear camera allows you to shoot photos and videos in high quality. It is compatible with all other Apple products and apps and easy to set up right out of the box. Weighs only 331g.

        Cons

        • As with all Apple products, the first con is its price. Also the model supports Wi-Fi only, if you need to take it out a lot then there's a 4G Wi-Fi + Cellular version, which will cost more obviously. Some complain that they have refurbished ones, so check careful – product should be returned if you suspect that it is not new.

        Bottom Line

        • Superbly well made tablet with comparatively great value and excellent screen. If you value portability while having sufficient budget (or simply just because you are an Apple fan), iPad Mini 2 is a great choice. Nearly 3000 positive customer reviews.

        Microsoft Surface 4

          Pros

          • Microsoft 10 Pro with 3GHz Intel core i5 processor. 10 hours average battery life. 2-in-1 product that allows you to work efficiently. High resolution 2736 x 1824 screen provides you with crystal clear and sharp display. 8-megapixel Rear camera and 5-megapixel Front camera. Hello feature allows it to scan and record registered users’ faces to unlock automatically. Large storage – you can choose between 128GB, 256GB or 512GB as well as use MicroSD to increase memory. Pen tip included.

          Cons

          • The first con is its price ($999), but to consider as this is a 2-in-1 product that can replace your laptop, it’s quite reasonable. Also there is only one USB port, it’s might be inconvenient when you are using the mouse and need something in the flash drive. It’s not a good tablet/laptop for demanding games. Type Cover is sold separately.

          Bottom Line

          • If you have the money, the Surface Pro 4 is the best Windows 10 2-in-1 product available. It offers a bright, crisp display, robust performance and solid build quality. The Surface Pro 4 will meet most people’s personal and work needs. Over 1300 positive customer reviews.

In the market for a 2017 tablet?

Here are 10 important  features you should think about before purchasing a new tablet.

          • Operating system. There are 4 basic OS in use:  Apple iOS, Google Android, Microsoft Windows and BlackBerry Tablet OS. Each has its own pros and cons, but the point is to choose the one suits you the most. Also it can take time to get yourself familiar with new OS, so think carefully before switching.
          • Screen size and resolution. Tablet sizes ranges from 5 inches to 12 inches – the bigger they are, the harder for you to carry it around, but it may be more comfortable to work on. For normal needs, high resolution is not necessary, but if you want to use it for entertainment such as watching high-definition movies, a minimum resolution of 720 pixels across the shorter dimension is necessary.
          • Storage space. How much do you need – 16, 32 or 64 GB? Would you like to expand it with MicroSD card? You might not carry much data on a tablet, yet if you are an apps-lover, remember that they use a lot of valuable space. Also keep in mind each tablet already has some of the storage used up by apps that are hard wired for the tablet’s functionality.
          • Wireless connectivity. For your convenience, choose the tablet that supports 802.11n specification (and both 2.4GHz and 5.0GHz radio bands if possible). If you are looking for a tablet that comes with 3G or 4G wireless connectivity, be prepared to pay a premium.
          • Camera. Tablets have either one or two cameras–Front and Rear. If you will be using your tablet to take pictures, make sure to check the resolution to guarantee you’ll get a quality image.
          • Speaker. Even if you have headphones, there are times you will want to use the tablet speakers. The sound quality should be loud and clear enough for you to hear.
          • Battery life. You wouldn’t want a tablet that runs out of battery in 3 hours after a long time of charging, therefore always remember to research the average battery life (and charging issues if any). There are 3 factors that effect tablet battery life: battery’s size, brightness of the screen back-light, and the amount of time the tablet is on.
          • Inputs and outputs. Many come with a 3.5mm headphone jack and a USB port, but there are always exceptions. Some manufacturers provide port for connection to keyboards, Microsoft Surface Book has dual USB ports, Apple iPad doesn’t have a USB port – it varies.
          • Apps and content. The 3 major tablet operating systems provide their own digital storefronts, App Store of iOS; Google Play of Android, and Windows Store of Windows.
          • Price. It’s important to choose a tablet that fits your budget and meets your needs
            • For less than $100, you can get an inexpensive Android tablet with tight storage capacities and low-resolution displays, and you won’t find many that have screens larger than 7 inches.
            • Sub-$200 range tablets have 7 or 8 inches and run Android, usually with 8 or 16 GB storage.
            • Pay a little more, you will get 9 – 10 inches tablet with some awesome added perks
            • $300 to $400 is where you meet larger, higher-end tablets, including high-end 7 to 8 inches and lower-end 9 to 10 inches ones.
            • $400+ tablets are mainly born to be laptop replacements – having faster processors, bigger screens, more storage space, and many other perks.
